Carlos Manuel Rodríguez is a true leader in the field of environmental conservation and sustainability. As a lawyer by profession, politician by choice and conservationist at heart, Carlos has left an indelible mark on the international environmental scene.

During his three terms as Minister of Environment and Energy in Costa Rica, Carlos led bold initiatives that transformed the country into a world leader in sustainability. Under his leadership, Costa Rica doubled the size of its forests, made the electricity sector 100% renewable and became a first-rate ecotourism destination.

With extensive experience in Conservation International for 12 years, Carlos was a pioneer in the development of innovative strategies such as payment for ecosystem services, ocean conservation and decarbonization strategies. His experience as an expert in environmental policies, multilateral negotiations and funding for nature conservation make him an invaluable resource for our Advisory Board.
