Oliver Schaper

Design Resilience Leader at Gensler

Oliver is an interdisciplinary Design Director and the Global Cities & Urban Design Resilience Leader whose expertise is developing holistic, civic-minded, and sustainable places. Based in Gensler's New York office, Oliver oversees and spearheads planning and urban design projects, strategies, and communication tools for projects including master plans, environmental systems, commercial and institutional headquarters, mixed-use campuses, and residential developments. Oliver’s recent work includes the master plan and design for a 22-building waterfront development in Istanbul; an area-wide master plan for downtown Brooklyn; and a net-positive residential complex with electric car sharing in Ontario. Oliver has taught at various universities and has built a reputation as a leader in his field through his regular presence at industry events, speaking on various topics, participating on juries, and acting in expert advisory roles. Oliver is a fellow of the Urban Design Forum.

Profesional en Finanzas y Relaciones Internacionales de la Universidad de Externado de Colombia y Candidata a Doctorado en Políticas Públicas de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Se desempeñó en entre 1998 y 1999 como Asesora de Despacho de la Gobernación de Cundinamarca y Directora de Concesiones del Departamento, entre 2005 y 2006 trabajó en el Banco Santander en Madrid en la Vicepresidencia de Responsabilidad Social del Banco, en el año 2007 fue Staff Researcher en Columbia University en Nueva York y desde el 2008 ha trabajado en Constructora Bolívar donde inició como Directora de Responsabilidad Social. A partir del 2011 es Gerente de Creación de Capital Social.

He is a leading expert in the area of Smart Cities and urban mobility systems. He was the Managing Director of the City Science Initiative at the MIT Media Lab (2012-2015) where innovative research was conducted on urban housing, transport, energy, and big data analytics. He researched Autonomous Mobility-on-Demand Systems – a network of self‑driving, shared-use, electric vehicles (EVs). He developed EVs including the GreenWheel, RoboScooter, Persuasive Electric Vehicle, and the CityCar a foldable, electric, two-person vehicle. Time Magazine named the CityCar the “Automotive Invention of the Year” (2007). His research led to the MIT Press publication of Reinventing the Automobile: Personal Urban Mobility for the 21st Century by Mitchell, Borroni-Bird, and Burns (2010).

David L. Kelly

Academic Director of the Master of Science in Sustainable Business at the University of Miami Herbert Business School

He was chair of the economics department from 2005-8 and has formerly held positions at the University of California at Santa Barbara and Carnegie Mellon University. Prof. Kelly has published widely on optimal climate change policy, adaptation to climate change, the design of environmental regulation, the economic impact of hurricanes, and the effect of economic growth on the environment. Research authored/co-authored by Professor Kelly has appeared in leading journals including Science, Nature, the Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, and the Journal of Economic Theory. His research has been funded by NSF, DOE, and other federal agencies. Professor Kelly is an award-winning teacher with over 20 years of classroom experience at the undergraduate, masters, and Ph.D. level.
