


The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's global development network, working in some 170 countries to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities and help countries achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It collaborates with governments and civil society to build integrated and lasting solutions in areas such as social and economic development, resilience to climate change and democratic governance.

Rita Sciarra is an expert in international development and currently leads the Inclusive Growth and Poverty Reduction area at UNDP in Panama. She was a Strategic Advisor to UNDP in Mexico, where she supported economic recovery after the 2018 earthquake. Italian, polyglot and with more than 14 years of experience in three continents, she has worked in post-conflict and development contexts, including Haiti, where she directed programs to facilitate the transition from emergency to development, promoting the social and economic inclusion of thousands of people. He began his career in 2003 in India, Bolivia and Tanzania, and between 2007 and 2011 he worked in the Dominican Republic on issues of Millennium Goals, early recovery and evaluation. He holds three master's degrees in Public Law and International Relations (Zaragoza), European Economic Studies (College of Europe) and Economics and International Relations (Bocconi). In 2017, she was selected as a Yale World Fellow.
